Abstract | Viral vectors have become widely used tools for genetic manipulation of adipose tissues to understand the biology and function of adipocytes in metabolism. There are a number of different viral vectors commonly used: retrovirus, lentivirus, adenovirus, and adeno-associated virus (AAV). Here, we review examples from the literature and describe methods to transduce adipocytes and adipose tissues using retrovirus, lentivirus, adenovirus, and AAV to ascertain gene function in adipose biology. |
